Grounded

The Vikings returned to U.S. Bank Stadium on Sunday to take on the one-win Arizona Cardinals. Minnesota quickly grounded the birds.

It was another great showing for the Vikings after struggling earlier in the season. Kirk Cousins and Adam Thielen put together a dangerous aerial attack, but it was Minnesota’s running game that stole the show. The Vikings’ offense had been one-dimensional while Dalvin Cook continues to recover from a hamstring injury, but Latavius Murray finally took off the training wheels and turned the Cardinals into roadkill.

The Vikings made a legitimate effort to get the ground game going – offensive coordinator John DeFilippo dialed up plenty of running plays and it paid off big. The “Tay Train” hit the ground running and lived up to his nickname, steamrolling several defenders on his way to the end zone. Latavius tallied up 155 yards, ranking second in the league this week.

Quarterback Kirk Cousins also got in on the fun, scoring one of his two touchdowns on the ground.

Head coach Mike Zimmer was especially pleased with today’s performance since he’s been relying heavily on the passing attack so far this season:

“It was good to see that the running game got going. I thought Latavius Murray ran with a purpose.”

Congrats to the Vikings on running over the Cardinals, hopefully we can steam-roll the Jets next week!
